Be Smart—Lock Your Car

Many people are concerned with getting the best sound out of their car’s audio system. And for those people, it’s more than likely that they’ve looked into purchasing additional speakers, woofers, and other car audio equipment to bolster and improve the car’s sound. But these people should also be wary about protecting their purchases. Particularly if you’re investing in high quality products like Kicker subwoofers or other advanced audio equipment, always make sure to lock your car when it’s unattended.
One of the most common items lost in car theft is actually the car’s sound system. Criminals have become expert at removing these systems in almost no time, so they are in and out before you even have a chance. So even if you’re leaving your car for a minute to run into the grocery store, make sure those doors are locked and the windows are rolled up. And don’t think that a dinged and dirty car will be a deterrent for car thieves. They know exactly what they’re looking for, and having a beat up 1990 Toyota Tercel isn’t going to stop any savvy criminal from identifying and taking your audio system.
Blast Your Tunes Without Destroying the Speakers

On a sunny summer day, there’s nothing better than sailing down the highway with your car windows rolled down and your music blaring. But people who love to blast their music should be wary of blowing their speakers. If you overexert your audio system, it can result in permanent sound quality reduction. If you’ve ever heard somebody’s radio that constantly sounds like it has static or interference, it is most likely the product of a blown speaker.
The quality of a sound system depends on the make of the car, but you can always add a more advanced or professional sound system after the purchase. Especially if you’re purchasing a used vehicle and the speakers are already gone (or on their last legs), it’s a good idea to invest in a new sound system. A 2 channel amplifier is a great device for operating both a left and right speaker. These are a popular choice among people looking to keep a particular sound system for any significant amount of time. As a rule of thumb, the more powerful the amplifier, the longer your system will produce high quality sound.
High Quality Sound And Music

Nobody wants a car stereo system that sounds like it’s beaming static from an AM/FM pocket radio, but in truth, a lot of systems, even expensive ones, sound like that because the system is poor quality and the installation is incorrect. When choosing a car stereo system, it’s best to strike a balance between noise output and sound quality. Louder doesn’t mean better, because if all that’s discernable in the music is the bass, then the listeners are missing out. The first step to having an awesome car audio system is selecting a receiver. A Kenwood, JBL, or Boss CD player makes a great base to build a sound system around. Once you’ve selected the receiver, it’s important to make sure the speakers and subwoofer are compatible. Once the system is selected, installation can be a bit of a challenge. Many car owners prefer to install their own car audio systems because professional installation can cost a fortune. But you can find instructions online or sometimes included with the products themselves, and once you’ve figured the instructions out, installation is often just connecting a few wires and following the steps.
Navigating the Urban Sprawl

Living near a major city like Seattle, sometimes I just hate having to drive. While I do take the bus a lot of the time, sometimes I need to drive into the heart of the city, and it’s a real pain with all the one way streets, obscure stoplights, and construction all over. I can say with confidence that I break at least one law every time I drive into Seattle, and most of the time I don’t even know it. When I bought my new car, I requested an in dash navigation system for the specific reason of being able to better navigate the streets in Seattle. Though I expected the in dash navigation system to at least provide me directions, it worked better than I thought it would. With a touch screen monitor, the interface for the navigation system I bought is so simple that I felt I had it figured out before I drove the car home from the lot.
I now use my in dash navigation system to navigate the city with ease. I know the fastest way to all destinations, and I can even avoid construction and high traffic intersections. The in dash navigation is also great for checking traffic reports on the way to work in the morning; it saves me a lot of time!
Finding a Friend in the Suburbs…

Back in college, I knew a friend who lived in the suburbs, and every time I drove out to his place I would get lost. He lived in this maze of neighborhoods that all had similar names and most didn’t have visible street signs. My friend’s house looked like all the others on the block too. One night, I was heading over to his place to pick him up for a party, and I got lost. I had no idea where I was, and I was getting frustrated, so I called him up and asked him if I could meet him elsewhere. Instead of doing that, he just told me to drive around and bump my 15 inch subwoofers. About five minutes after I started bumping my subwoofers, I saw him running after me on the street! He found me just by listening to the sound of the subwoofers, since they were so loud.

Chances are if you’ve ever wondered how those Cadillacs produce such an audible bass sound you know that it’s due to subwoofers. Let’s face it, there’s nothing better than bumping your favorite hip-hop beat and feeling the bass in the background. But you also don’t want your car subwoofers to be so powerful you can’t even hear the instrumentals and vocals over the bass. It’s important to achieve a balance between bass sound and the music, and thus select the right subwoofers and ensure that your car stereo can synthesize the bass with the music.
Certain car stereos aren’t meant to integrate a pounding bass in the background, so it might be necessary to install a new car audio system or downgrade to smaller subwoofers if your current set-up doesn’t work well. There is lots of information online about which stereo systems work best with which speakers, so make sure to do your research or consult an expert before you buy!

Consider Your Amplifiers Efficiency

The term “amplifier” or simply “amp” is now used not only to mean any device that increases the signal’s breadth of range. Its modern usage is primarily to refer to an electronic amplifier used in microcomputers, hi-fi stereos, television and radio transmitters and receivers, electronic digital equipments and instruments for audio applications. Buying an amplifier therefore requires one to determine what you are using it for. A mono block amplifier, for instance, is best suitable for sub-woofers where their noise and distortion is comparatively lower than using them for speakers.
Another factor to be considered is the amplifier’s efficiency, meaning, its ability to convert power input to output. Amplifiers can fall under categories that range from Class A to Class D, with Class D being most efficient and Class A being the least. And like all other technologies, the compatibility of the amplifier to where you intend to use it is the key factor.
